While most of the rail network is currently carrying little more than fresh air and more delivery drivers self isolating daily an innovative solution between Cross Country trains and Intercity RailFreight to carry medical consignments for the NHS or any other medical companies has launched.

With trains reaching speeds of up to 125mph, the Cross Country network links together some of the UK’s major centres: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, Bristol and points West, plus Manchester with Birmingham and Oxford.

InterCity RailFreight can complete the journey to London via partnerships with East Midlands Railway and Great Western Railway, offering a fast and secure service during the current lockdown when road services are being subject to unprecedented demand.

Working together Cross Country Trains and InterCity RailFreight safety and security protocols have been designed around the stringent standards required for the transportation of samples, medication and medical supplies, ambient chilled and frozen materials.

With the NHS under huge pressure Cross Country trains and Intercity RailFreight plus their sustainable final mile delivery couriers are proud to support specialist medical staff in the field and deliver time-critical medication direct to field hubs, nurses and patients’ homes – on both a same day and timed overnight basis.
